Weekend Progression #2
October 2021
Turn a standard progression into something with a little more tension
This weekend we will look at turning a standard 1—1maj7—4—5 progression into a more dynamic and interesting progression. Keeping away from complex music theory, we will simply describe this by using the diagrams of chords below.
1. Start Here

2. Next Try This
Experiment with the descending running 3rd from D-C#-C on the 2nd
string. You can consider playing the IV chord (G) with the open B string to
continue the run. You can also experiment with various finger picking patterns or playing arpeggios. And yes, we resolve the progression to the root D chord in our recording. Have fun!
