Weekend Progression #4

February 2022

Enhance the tonal complexity of a standard progression

1. Start here

Starting with a standard 1-6-2-5 progression in the key of Cmaj.

In this example you can simply strum the chords, or you can pick the root note with the thumb, then follow with the other notes picked with the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd fingers simultaneously.

2. Next, try this

Now, let’s play the same sequence (1-6-2-5) in the second position,
but with the added 7th.

3. Finally, let's add some passing notes

Now, let’s add a bit more movement and dimension to the progression by including a few passing notes by picking the 1st and 2nd string following each chord that are Indicated by the highlighted notes.
